Subcontracting of airline maintenance has been a major trend over the years. Many airlines consider aircraft maintenance a non-core task and as such, it has been on the list for outsourcing and cost cutting. But maintenance is an essential part of your safety system, it has a profound impact on your value proposition and its leverage on total cost of operations is grossly underestimated.
Despite the arguments above, airlines still subcontract, so what is the problem?
The devil is in the detail. Poor subcontracting leads to dysfunctional results, cost wise, safety wise, commercially. Inadequate subcontractor selection can lead to very realistic problems, increased management attention, unstable performance and so on. The major problem is that many companies copy industry wisdom without an integrated maintenance strategy. This leads to a patchwork of contracts and arrangements, with suboptimal transparency and lack of control.

Integrated Operations Management & Control (IOMC) also know as OCC or IOCC is just a part of our flight operations services. Integrated fuel management is also part of our offering. Do you have full grip on the interactions that result from local decisions? Are you sure that your network decisions support minimum fuel burn, or do they prohibit fuel efficient and cost efficient flying? Have you considered the CO2 impact of all this?
Find out more, contact me through the contact page and I will happy to discuss with you how fuel consumption and CO2 emission can be reduced further.
